RANK #12 NATIONALLY — 3,987 REPORTED SIGHTINGS
Massachusetts ranks 12th nationally and maintains one of the highest per-capita rates among densely populated states. Hanscom AFB near Lexington is home to the Air Force Research Laboratory. Massachusetts' educated, science-literate population may produce more detailed and credible reports than average.
The Cape Cod coastline shows elevated marine UAP reporting, and the area near Otis ANG Base has produced consistent multi-witness events over decades. The Cape and Islands region's combination of darkness and maritime positioning makes it an excellent observation zone.
The 1979 Frederick Valentich case (Australian, but involving Massachusetts observers during the same wave) and the persistent Bridgewater Triangle phenomenon in southeastern Massachusetts have contributed to the state's active UAP research community.
Consistent with national patterns, Massachusetts witnesses most frequently report orb and light phenomena, followed by triangular and disc-shaped objects.
