RANK #2 NATIONALLY — 8,942 REPORTED SIGHTINGS
Florida ranks second nationally with 8,942 reported sightings. The state's unique combination of active military installations, the Space Coast launch corridor, and year-round clear skies creates conditions for both elevated reporting and potential misidentification of legitimate aerospace activity.
MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Eglin Air Force Base in the Panhandle, and Patrick Space Force Base on the Space Coast collectively generate substantial classified and unclassified flight activity. Kennedy Space Center launches have historically generated significant misidentified sighting reports.
The Gulf Coast from Fort Myers to Pensacola shows a persistent cluster of marine sightings. Florida's large retirement community, which spends more time outdoors in evening hours, may contribute to higher reporting rates.
Consistent with national patterns, Florida witnesses most frequently report orb and light phenomena, followed by triangular and disc-shaped objects.
